    The Longevity Glossary

You don’t need to be an athlete to care about your recovery.
Or a biohacker to think about your metabolism.
Or “old” to start thinking about longevity.

This glossary breaks down the science-y words you’ll hear around here into everyday language, so you know exactly what they mean for your life, your energy, and your future.

Read on and start taking steps to live life at Level 10.

    Longevity

Living the life you want today, and still doing it decades from now with the same energy, movement, and drive. Living better now, living better later, and adding more quality of life (and years) to life. <br>Think: chasing your kids around, hiking that trail, acing your weekly pickleball game, dancing at a wedding, today and when you’re 40 and 50 and 60 and 70 and 80 and…. You get the picture.

    Recovery

Recovery is everything your body does to repair itself after the demands you put on it – whether that’s a morning workout, a late-night flight, or three back-to-back meetings. It’s your muscles rebuilding, your immune system defending, your energy stores refilling, and your mind resetting. When recovery is quick and complete, you get back to your day without dragging your feet or feeling sore and tired.

    Fundamentals
    P
    Performance

How well you can do the things that matter to you – whether that is carrying grocery bags without back pain, hitting a personal record on your run, or delivering a killer presentation without feeling drained.

    Metrics
    B
    Biomarker

A measurable sign of what’s happening inside your body that tell you how well your body is doing today, and how it might do in the future. The top five most studied biomarkers for longevity are cognition, metabolism, cardiovascular health, skin health, and inflammation – each one offering insight into how well you’re aging and where you can improve.

    Inflammation

It literally means swelling –  in your muscles, tissues, skin, or anywhere else. This is your body’s repair signal, meant to switch on when you’re hurt or sick, and then switch off. But sometimes it stays on for months or years. Not good. This “always-on” state manifests as dull skin, stiff joints, brain fog, constant fatigue, slower workout recovery, or even unexplained weight gain – all of which are your body’s way of saying it’s under stress.

    indicators
    M
    Metabolism

Not just an indicator of weight loss. Metabolism is a measure of how your body turns food into energy and puts it to work. When it slows down, you might feel sluggish, foggy, or bloated –  even if you’re “eating clean.” A healthy metabolism keeps your energy high and your mood balanced.

    indicators
    C
    Cognition

This means your brain’s processing power, which includes memory, focus, learning, and problem-solving. All this relies on healthy blood flow to the brain and strong neural connections. When these are compromised, you might feel mentally slow, forgetful, or distracted. You may walk into a room and forget why. You may read the same sentence three times. Sound familiar? Supporting cognition helps you think clearly and stay mentally agile at any age.

    indicators
    C
    Cardiovascular Health

The strength and efficiency of your heart and blood vessels in moving oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to every cell. This depends on a healthy heart and arteries. When cardiovascular health is strong, daily activities like climbing stairs, carrying groceries, or walking long distances feel easier and leave you less winded.

    indicators
    S
    Skin Health

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and its condition reflects what’s happening inside – from hydration and nutrient levels to inflammation. Dullness, dryness, or breakouts can be signs your body is under stress. Healthy skin isn’t just cosmetic, it shows that you’re well-nourished and thriving. And the glow helps you feel better about yourself, of course!

    Metrics
    V
    VO2 max

A measure of how much oxygen your body can use during intense activity. Higher VO₂ max means your heart, lungs, and muscles work together efficiently, letting you go farther, faster, and recover quicker. A low VO₂ max can leave you breathing heavily on stairs or tired halfway through your workout.
